Crosstrek Review: Tackling the Untamed Wilderness
There are numerous features an SUV has to have in place if it’s going to go traveling over muddy fields, rock hills, sand dunes, or snowy valleys. Thankfully, Subaru has included all requisite off-road features in the 2022 Crosstrek.
For starters, the SUV is standard with the famed symmetrical all-wheel drive system. By altering the distribution of power on the fly, the Crosstrek delivers supreme traction and control on any surface.
The features merely start there, however. Other core additions to the SUV include:
- 8.7 inches of ground clearance
- Available X-MODE® with Hill Descent Control
- Raised roof rails for additional on-the-go storage
X-MODE® is yet another system working to optimize traction. As for Hill Descent Control, it can add stability to your model as you attempt to climb a steep incline, or scale down a steep descent.
Crosstrek Review: Punchy Performance
Your choice of engine and transmission is going to drastically alter the level of engagement in the 2022 Crosstrek. What’s interesting is the Crosstrek still offers a manual transmission for those who want it-making it one of the last SUVs on the market to do so. If you prefer automatic, the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is a splendid choice.
The maximum towing capacity of the Crosstrek reaches 1,500 pounds when properly equipped. There’s also a trio of engine options:
- 2.0L engine making 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque
- 2.5L engine making 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque
- Hybrid engine with a total system net horsepower of 148
Crosstrek Review: Usable, Durable Interior
SUVs are meant to support cargo and people, often at the same time. The Subaru Crosstrek accomplishes this mission while also offering helpful versatility.
Legroom in the front measures 43.1 inches, and in the second row, passengers have 36.5 inches to work with. The total passenger volume is 100.9 cubic feet.
Then, you have two cargo arrangements to work with-one with the rear seats standing, and the other with the rear seats flat:
- 20.8 cubic feet of cargo behind the second row
- 55.3 cubic feet of cargo behind the first row
